Class Progression
Our classes are based on both age and ability. For our youngest students, the level of cognitive development requires play-based training with more free exploration. As students advance, we increase the difficulty, skills, and focus.
There are a few ways you can level up in parkour:
Coach's Approval: Students (and/or parents) are invited to speak to a coach when they feel they are ready for the additional challenge a new class level would provide. Coaches will be honest with their feedback, and will tell you what, if anything, the student may need to focus on before they are ready to advance.
Successful Testing Day: Occasionally, if a coach feels the majority of students in a class are ready for the next level, they may call for a testing day. On testing day, the coach will put students through a series of obstacle skill tests to see how far the students have progressed. Those who possess the necessary safety, awareness, and parkour skills for the next level will be advanced (Junior 2 students may pass into Beginner 1 before the age of 7 via a successful testing day).
(For students age 7+ in Beginner 2 or above): Self Assessment: Once you feel you have the skills needed to take on the challenge of the next level, you are invited to do so of you own free will. If in doubt, we encourage you to speak with the coach!
(For our adult students) Self-Assessment: Due to their higher level of awareness and self-control, our adult students may register for any class level they feel qualified to participate in. Please note: although a parent may assist their child in Little Ninjas, our adult students are not allowed to take classes restricted to ages 3-4 (Little/Mighty Ninjas) or 5-6 (Junior Parkour or Junior Flips).
(For our younger students) Age Out: Class progression naturally happens at age 5 (switching to Jr Parkour) and at age 7 (switching to Beginner 1).
Please note: Students who have aged out of a class may not continue taking class with the younger age group once their birthday month concludes.
Students who advance out of their current level are welcome to immediately switch to the higher level, or continue taking both levels until they feel more comfortable. Put another way, students should only register for classes at their highest qualified class level, and/or one level below.
